Export or delete your data

You own your data. From the account page you can download everything SmartMailing holds about you, or permanently delete your account. Both actions are self-serve and map to your GDPR rights: data portability (Article 20) and erasure (Article 17).

Export all your data​

The export is a single JSON file containing your account and everything attached to it: your brands, projects and templates (email, web, and transactional), signatures, saved prompts, AI chat history, extraction jobs, usage records, subscription records, brand API keys, subscriber lists and subscribers, list memberships, imports, consent records, suppressions, and your email send history.

To download it:

  1. Go to /account.
  2. In the Export my data section, click Download my data.
  3. Wait while the file is prepared. The button shows Preparing while the export streams.
  4. Your browser downloads a file named like smartmailing-export-2026-07-17.json.

Large accounts with long send histories can take a little while to export; the file streams page by page, so let it finish. If the export fails, try again or contact support.

Delete your account​

Deleting your account permanently removes your account and all associated data:

  • Every brand profile
  • Every subscriber, plus their consent records and suppression entries
  • Every template (email, web, transactional)
  • Every project, AI chat, and uploaded image
  • Sending-domain configurations, which are deregistered from the sending infrastructure

This is irreversible. There is no grace period and no undo.

To delete:

  1. Go to /account.
  2. In the Delete my account section, click Delete my account.
  3. A confirmation dialog opens listing exactly what will be removed. Type DELETE into the confirmation field.
  4. Click Delete forever.
  5. You see a confirmation that the account was deleted, then you are signed out and returned to the homepage.

What is retained​

Two things survive deletion, by design:

  • Suppression entries are kept in anonymized form. This honors the unsubscribe choices of people who removed themselves from your lists, so they are not accidentally emailed again in the future.
  • Billing records may be retained as required by Austrian tax law.

Export your data before deleting your account. Once the deletion completes there is nothing left to export.
