Activate, pause, and edit

Every automation has a clear Active / Off switch. You can flip it in two places: on the automation's card in the list, or in the top bar of the automation editor.

Turn a flow on​

  1. Open the automation and check the sequence: it needs at least one email, and every email needs a template selected. If something is missing, the editor tells you (for example "Give every email a template before turning this on").
  2. Click the Off switch so it shows Active. Your latest changes are saved automatically as part of turning it on.

From that moment, subscribers who match the trigger enter the flow. For a welcome flow that means new confirmed subscribers; for a tag flow, subscribers who get that tag.

Activating a flow does not enroll anyone retroactively. Subscribers who confirmed or were tagged before you switched it on are not swept in; only new trigger events count.

Turn a flow off​

Click the Active switch so it shows Off. Two things happen:

  • No one new enters the flow until you turn it back on.
  • Subscribers already inside the flow are held in place. Their next email does not send while the flow is off; when you reactivate, they pick up where they left off.

Turning a flow off is safe and reversible, so it is the right move whenever you want to rework a series without new signups flowing in.

Edit a live automation​

You can open and edit an automation while it is active. Changing an email's subject or template is safe: subscribers who already received that email will not get it again, and everyone who has not reached it yet gets the new version.

Be careful reordering, inserting, or removing emails while subscribers are mid-flow. Each subscriber tracks their position by step number, so changing the order changes which email an in-flight subscriber receives next. If you need to restructure a series, turn it off first, make your changes, and turn it back on.

Delete an automation​

On the automations list, click the trash icon on a card and confirm in the Delete automation dialog. Deleting cancels any in-flight enrollments and cannot be undone. If you just want to stop a flow temporarily, switch it Off instead.
