Create an automation

This page walks you through building a flow: choosing a trigger, adding emails, and setting the delays between them.

Before you start, make sure the brand has at least one saved email template. Every email in a flow uses a template you built in the email builder. If you have none yet, see Create your first template.

Start a new flow​

  1. Open Automations and pick your brand.
  2. Click New automation. A new draft opens in the automation editor, prefilled as a welcome flow named "Welcome email".
  3. Click the name at the top and rename it to whatever you like.

New automations start switched off, so nothing sends while you build.

Choose the trigger​

The WHEN card at the top of the flow decides who enters it:

  • A new subscriber confirms: the welcome case. Someone joins your list and confirms their email through double opt-in.
  • A tag is added to a subscriber: runs when a specific tag is applied. Choosing this reveals a Tag field where you type the tag to watch for (for example vip). The match is not case sensitive.

Add your emails​

  1. Click Add the first email. An email card appears in the flow.
  2. Set the delay in the connector above the card. The first email defaults to Send immediately. Type a number and pick minutes, hours, or days; a value of 0 means it sends right away.
  3. Type a Subject line.
  4. In the Template dropdown, choose one of the brand's saved templates. Every email needs one; the card shows required until a template is selected.
  5. A Preview opens below the card so you can check the email exactly as it will render, with a Desktop / Mobile toggle.

To build a series, click Add another email and repeat. Follow-up emails default to a two day delay, shown as Then send after, which you can change the same way. Each delay counts from the previous email in the sequence.

Use the arrows on an email card to move it up or down the sequence, or the trash icon to remove it.

Personalize your emails​

Subject lines and email content support the same merge fields as campaigns, so {{first_name}} in a subject line becomes each subscriber's first name at send time.

Save​

Click Save in the top bar to store the trigger and the sequence. Saving does not start the flow; it stays off until you flip the Active switch. Turning it on also saves your latest changes first, so you will not activate a stale version.

tip

A good starter series is three emails: a warm welcome sent immediately, your best content or offer after 2 days, and a nudge after another 3 to 4 days. You can always add more later; new emails only affect subscribers who have not passed that point in the flow yet.
