Enrollments and performance

When a subscriber matches an active automation's trigger, they are enrolled: they enter the flow at the first email and move through the sequence on their own personal schedule. This page explains how enrollments behave and how to read the flow's stats.

Each subscriber runs on their own clock

Delays are measured per subscriber, from the moment they enter the flow. If your welcome series sends immediately, then after 2 days, then after 3 more days, someone who confirms on Monday gets emails Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday; someone who confirms on Friday gets the same rhythm starting Friday. Enrollments are fully independent of each other.

Who enters a welcome flow

The A new subscriber confirms trigger fires when someone completes double opt-in: they sign up and click the confirmation link. Deliberately, importing subscribers does not fire it. That way a welcome series never blasts thousands of pre-existing subscribers the moment you bring a list over from another tool.

Each subscriber goes through a given automation once. Someone who has already been through a flow is not enrolled in it again.

How subscribers leave a flow

An enrollment ends in one of two ways:

  • Completed: the subscriber received the last email in the sequence.
  • Removed: the subscriber unsubscribed, bounced, or landed on your suppression list. They exit the flow automatically and receive nothing further from it.

The unsubscribe check happens right before every send, so someone who unsubscribes between email 2 and email 3 never gets email 3.

How sending works

Automation emails send on your promotional stream through the same pipeline as campaigns: the same suppression checks, brand styling, merge fields, unsubscribe footer, and one-click unsubscribe header. They also respect the same protections around your account:

  • Your brand needs a verified sending domain. Until it is verified, automation emails wait rather than send.
  • Sends count toward your plan's email allowance. If you hit your limit, pending automation emails wait and send once your allowance resets or you upgrade.
  • During domain warm-up, emails beyond the day's ramp roll over to the next day.

In all of these cases the emails are deferred, not lost: the subscriber stays enrolled and the email goes out when the block clears.

Read the performance panel

Open an automation that has had at least one enrollment and a PERFORMANCE panel appears at the top of the editor with five tiles:

  • Enrolled: everyone who has ever entered the flow.
  • Sent: total emails delivered across all steps.
  • Open rate and Click rate: opens and clicks as a share of sent emails.
  • Completed: subscribers who reached the end of the sequence.

If the flow has more than one email, a per-email breakdown lists each step with its own sent count, open rate, and click rate, so you can see exactly where a series holds attention and where it drops off.

The automations list shows lighter numbers on each card (subscribers enrolled and subscribers who finished), which is enough for a quick health check across all your flows.
