What automations are
Automations are lifecycle flows: when a trigger fires, SmartMailing sends one email or a whole series over time, without you doing anything. Switch one on and it runs on its own. The classic example is a welcome series that greets every new subscriber the moment they confirm.

Activate, pause, and edit
Every automation has a clear Active / Off switch. You can flip it in two places: on the automation's card in the list, or in the top bar of the automation editor.
Enrollments and performance
When a subscriber matches an active automation's trigger, they are enrolled: they enter the flow at the first email and move through the sequence on their own personal schedule. This page explains how enrollments behave and how to read the flow's stats.
