Convert a webpage or build from scratch

Besides starting from a saved brand, the start screen offers two more ways to create a template: converting an existing webpage, or building everything by hand.

Convert a webpage​

This is the fastest path when you have a website but no brand profile yet.

  1. On the start screen, click Convert a webpage.
  2. A notice explains that the extraction of colors, content and branding is powered by AI and can make mistakes. Click I understand, continue.
  3. Enter your Website URL. SmartMailing pulls your brand colors, logo, images and copy from the page.
  4. Under Choose Your Layout, pick the email type: Newsletter, Product Promotion, E-Commerce or Transactional. A layout preview on the right shows the structure of each type.
  5. Click Generate My Email.

The AI extracts your branding, writes content based on the website, and opens the finished draft in the builder. Images found on the page are added to your media gallery so you can swap them into any image block.

Save the branding as a brand profile​

After extraction finishes, SmartMailing asks Save as brand profile?. Enter a brand name and click Save & Continue to store the extracted colors, logo, fonts, footer and images as a reusable brand; the template is linked to it automatically. Click Skip if this is a one-off.

If extraction cannot read the site​

Some websites block automated access or load their content only after interaction. If that happens, the builder tells you what it could and could not find. When only the logo is missing you can click Upload Logo right away, or add it later under Template Settings. If nothing could be extracted, try a different URL or build the template manually.

Always verify that the extracted colors and content match your actual branding before sending. AI extraction is a starting point, not a guarantee.

Build from scratch​

Choose Build from scratch for full control. A four-step setup collects everything the AI needs:

  1. Context: describe the email in the Brief the AI field, for example "We are launching a new line of organic coffee beans and want to announce a 20% discount for early subscribers." Then pick the Email Type (Newsletter, Product Promotion, E-Commerce or Transactional).
  2. Logo: drag and drop an image, pick one from your Gallery, or paste a URL. You can also set the logo alignment to left, center or right.
  3. Colors: paste a website URL to extract a palette, click Use Default Colors, or set each color by hand.
  4. Socials: add your social media links so they appear in the footer.

After the last step, click Generate Draft to create your first version and open it in the builder.

Leaving setup unfinished​

If you leave during setup, SmartMailing warns you with Discard Project?: incomplete projects are deleted if you exit. If a previous session left a project half set up, you are offered Resume Setup or Delete Project the next time you open it.
