Subscriber details, suppression, and GDPR delete
Click any subscriber on the Subscribers page to open their detail page. It shows everything SmartMailing knows about that person and is where you handle suppression and right-to-be-forgotten requests for a single address.
Profile
The profile card shows the subscriber's status, email, name, language, and the key dates: when they subscribed, when they confirmed double opt-in, and when they unsubscribed (if they did). If the subscriber has tags, they appear here as chips.
Preferences, custom fields, and metadata
- Preferences lists the topic choices the subscriber made in your preference center, each shown as on or off. If they've never visited the preference center, this section says so.
- Custom fields shows the key-value fields stored on the subscriber, whether they came from a manual add, a CSV import mapping, or the API, for example
customer_idorcompany. - Metadata shows the raw data stored on the subscriber, useful when you're debugging an integration.
Lists
The Lists section shows every list this subscriber is on. Click Add to list to add them to another list, or click the x on a chip to remove them from one. See Organize subscribers with lists.
Activity timeline
The timeline shows the subscriber's history in order: when they were created, every consent moment, when they confirmed double opt-in, and any unsubscribe, bounce, or spam complaint.
Consent audit trail
Below the timeline, the consent audit trail lists every consent record with the exact text the subscriber saw, the source, the date, and the IP address where available. Sources include your signup form, embedded form, or API signup (all double opt-in), manual adds with attestation, and imports with attestation. This is the evidence you'd show in a GDPR or CAN-SPAM audit, so SmartMailing keeps it automatically.
Suppress an address
Suppression is the hard "never email this address again" switch. The suppression list for a brand lives at the bottom of the Subscribers page; entries come from unsubscribes, bounces, complaints, manual additions, and GDPR requests.
To suppress someone manually:
- Click Suppress on their row on the Subscribers page, or on their detail page.
- Confirm in the modal.
Future sends to the address are skipped, even if the person re-subscribes, and their subscriber status flips to unsubscribed. Adding or importing a suppressed address is also blocked.
Restore a suppressed address
Each entry on the suppression list has a Restore button that removes it. Only restore an address after confirming fresh consent, for example when the person explicitly asks to be re-added.
GDPR delete
When someone exercises their right to be forgotten:
- Click Delete on their row or on their detail page.
- Confirm with Delete forever.
This permanently deletes the subscriber together with all of their consent records, tokens, and list memberships, and removes any replies they sent you. One thing is intentionally kept: a suppression entry, so the address can never be re-collected by mistake, even through a later import.
GDPR delete is irreversible. If you only need to stop emailing someone, use Suppress instead; it keeps the audit trail intact.
