Web templates overview

Every email you send needs a few web pages around it: a place to sign up, a page that confirms the double opt-in, a preference center, and an unsubscribe page. SmartMailing hosts all of these for you, styled with your brand's colors and logo, so you never have to build them on your own website.

In the dashboard these pages are called web templates. You manage them under Web Templates in the top navigation.

The pages, grouped by flow

The workspace organizes the pages into three journeys, in the order a recipient moves through them:

Subscribe flow (how a visitor joins your list)

  1. Subscribe: a hosted signup form you can link to from anywhere.
  2. Check your inbox: shown right after someone submits the form.
  3. Subscription confirmed: shown after they click the confirmation link in the double opt-in email.

Preferences flow (updating what they receive)

  1. Preference center: checkboxes for the email types a subscriber wants.
  2. Preferences saved: shown after they save their choices.

Unsubscribe flow (leaving the list)

  1. Unsubscribe: asks the recipient to confirm before removing them.
  2. Unsubscribe confirmation: shown once they are unsubscribed.

Where recipients encounter them

You rarely link to these pages by hand. They are wired into your sending automatically:

  • Every marketing email you send includes an unsubscribe link that points to the recipient's personal unsubscribe page. If your template does not contain one, SmartMailing appends a small unsubscribe footer for you.
  • The unsubscribe page offers Update preferences instead, which leads to the preference center.
  • The double opt-in confirmation email links to the confirmation landing page.
  • The subscribe form lives at a shareable URL, /s/{brandId}, that you can put behind any button or link on your own site or social profiles.

How pages pick up your brand

Each page renders as a centered card using your brand profile:

  • Colors: page background, card background, text, footer text, dividers, and the button color all come from your brand's color settings.
  • Logo: the brand header shows your logo at the width you set for it. If the brand has no logo, a monogram with the first letter of the brand name is shown instead.
  • Footer: footer text, footer links, and social icons are pulled straight from the brand profile. If you have not set footer text, a simple copyright line with the brand name is used.

Because the header and footer read directly from the brand profile, updating your brand updates every hosted page at once. There is nothing to re-publish.

tip

The pages work even before you customize anything. If a brand has no web templates yet, recipients see a sensible default with your brand's colors and logo. Generating and editing templates just gives you control over the copy and layout.

What you can customize

For each brand you can generate the full set of pages and then edit them: change headlines and body text, rename buttons and form labels, edit the preference checkboxes, hide sections you do not need, and maintain separate copy per language. See Generate and edit web templates.
